Police Foil Kidnap Attempt, Quiz Bishop

Police have foiled an attempt to kidnap a 12 year-old boy by agents of a Pentecostal church bishop in Agudama, Bayelsa State.

Also a blue coloured Nissan Pathfinder Jeep with registration RV 971 PHC used for the foiled kidnap has been impounded by the “C” Division of the Nigeria Police, Akenfa.

The clergy man was to be detained for a few hours and later released on bail at the “C “Division of the Nigeria Police station, Akenfa .

Eyewitness account said the Bishop was about to be lynched by some Agudama-Epie youths before the Police arrived his residence and arrested him.

Speaking with journalists Enideneze Etete, father of the victim and a journalist with the State Newspaper Corporation, “The Waves” said at about 9.20am ,two youths were seen pasting a church crusade posters on the wall of his building’s fence.

According to Etete, trouble started for his son, when he queried why the posters should be pasted on their fence and tore posters making the youths to get annoyed .

Swiftly, the journalist’s son was whisked off into a waiting black Jeep vehicle by two youths and were heading towards the Bishop’s residence when they intercepted following an alarm people around raised.

A source told our correspondent that the clergy man was furious on why the journalist’s son should tear their posters ,claiming that the teenager had no right to do so.

It was gathered that the Bishop even threatened to deal with senior Etete when he enquired why his son should be bundled into his Jeep and brought to his residence.

However, the pastor when questioned by police claimed that he did not intend to take the boy hostage but punish him for insults and removal of the church posters.
