Orji Assures Residents Of Crime-Free Yuletide

Governor  Theodore Orji of Abia State has assured the residents of the state of adequate security of lives and property during the yuletide.

Orji gave the assurance on Monday in Umuahia, when he met with Mr Azubuko Uda, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Administration) Force Headquarters, Abuja.

He said that the state government would collaborate with the police and other security agencies to ensure adequate security of lives and property for residents and visitors during the festivity.

“I wish to assure you that this administration will continue to partner the police to do its job effectively,” he added.

He said security was “the primary function of every government” adding that his administration would continue to support Federal Government’s efforts toward providing logistics for the security agencies.

The governor identified inadequate logistics and manpower as part of the challenges facing the Nigeria police.

He thanked the police hierarchy for posting hardworking and committed officers to head the state police command.

He commended the “cordial relationship and synergy” that existed between the security outfits in the state and his administration.

Orji also lauded the exceptional role played by the police in fighting against kidnapping in the state, saying that “today, Abia is one of the safest states in the country”.

Earlier, the DIG said that he was on a tour of the police commands and their formations in the south-east states.

He said that the tour was designed to enable the Force Headquarters to do an appraisal of the challenges confronting the police in the zone.

He expressed regret that the country was facing a lot of security challenges, including the problem of Boko Haram, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

He assure the nation of the readiness of the police to make this Christmas and New Year celebrations peaceful and crime-free.
