NSC Dissolves 17th NSF MOC
The Min Organising Committee (MOC) of the 17th National Sports Festival tagged “Garden City Games 2011” has been dissolved.
The Director General of the National Sports Commission and Chairman, Main Organising Committee of the Garden City Games 2011 Dr Patrick Ikeji who announced the dissolution during the last meeting of the committee at the Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt last Thursday thanked the government and people of Rivers State for making the event a huge success.
Dr Ikeji who attributed the success of the event to Governor Chibiuke Amaechi, the Charman of the Local Organising Committee, Mr Tele Ikuru and members of the committee, said that their hard work and dedication towards the success of the game has placed the state as a reference point to be reckoned with locally and internationally.
Describing the Garden City Games 2011 as comparable to any Olympic Games, Ikeji urged the state government to put to constant use the facilities put in place for the games as well as continue to promote grass root sports in the state.
Mr Ikuru who spoke through the Commissioner for Sports, Mr Fred Igwe thanked the Director General of the National Sports Commission and the Main Organising Committee for the opportunity and assistance given the state to host the 17th National Sports Festival, assuring the state’s readiness to host any competition any time the opportunity is given.
Highlight of the meeting was the formal handing over of cheques of Twenty, Fifteen and Ten million Naira respectively to representatives of Rivers, Delta and Edo States which emerged first, second and third positions at the games as promised by President Goodluck Jonathan through the Secretary of the Main Organising Committee, Abba Yola.
