Lawmaker Explains Sponsorship Of Grassroots Sports
The deputy speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Leyii Kwanee has promised to take the people of Khana Constituency II to the next level in governance.
Kwanee stated this while fielding questions from sports journalists shortly after a friendly match between his football team (Nyo Khana Community) and Sharks FC at the weekend, in Port Harcourt.
He explained that his ambition of representing the people at the assembly was not only to make laws but also represent his people effectively to enable them feel the impact of the dividends of democracy.
“I promised my people that I will take representation to the next level.
This boys (players) you are seeing today are from my constituency we have to scout to get them” Kwanee said.
The law maker said that he has no regret for investing on grassroot sports development and described sports sector as a big human capacity development because through sports many youths earn their livelihood.
“I have no regret spending my money to sponsor sports in my constituency, because this players have actually impressed me, in terms of playing and demonstration of sportsmanship.
They are not professionals but, their standard is good for now, I can see more of Joseph Yobo, Finidi George and Kanu Nwankwo’s in Nyor Khana Community he stated.
Also speaking at the occasion the technical adviser of Sharks FC, John Obuh said he was impressed with the standard displayed by the Nyor Khana community players.
“I am concerned about how to make this boys productive, but that it requires funds to achieve this.
As a coach, I have been involved in grassroot sports development, so this would not be difficult for me to accomplish” Obuh said.
At the end of the match Sharks walloped Nyor Khana Community team 7-2.
