Jaja Seeks Legislation On Early Education
Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Downstream, Hon. Dakuku Peterside and the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dandison Douglas Jaja have called for legislation that will promote sustainability of infrastructure put in place to promote early child education in Nigeria.
Hon. Peterside stated this on Thursday during the foundation laying ceremony of a nursery school centre in Opobo/Nkoro donated to a non-governmental organisation, the Empowerment Support Imitative (ESI) by the Lawmaker representing Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency.
He said his gesture was borne out of a sheer determination to provide access to basic education among children in riverine and rural communities in the local government.
Hon. Peterside vowed that he would muster resources at his disposal to ensure sustainability of the facility.
“I want to say this before my constituents that this project has come to stay and I vowed to use all resources at my disposal to ensure the sustainability of this project.
King Jaja who received the founder of the non-governmental organisation, Dame Judith Amaechi in his Palace said that a proper legislation should be put in place to ensure that some of the facility put in place which has direct impact on the people should be sustained.
“The challenge facing most working project is that of sustainability especially projects initiated by wife of a serving governor. If it be worthwhile to have a legislation that will enable us preserve and sustain these institution that have great potentials to develop our people”.
Apart from laying the foundation stone of the Opobo/Nkoro Centre of the early child learning programme, the nursery school initiated by the non-governmental organisation was also flag-off.
Founder of the ESI and wife of the Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi said that the challenges of education in the country require collective effort of all stakeholders to address.
