Governor Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa has appealed to employers of labour in the state not to reject corps members posted to their organisations.

Al-makura, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Oga Ogaze, made the appeal in Keffi on Monday at the closing ceremony of the 2011 Batch “C” orientation course.

He also urged employers of labour to provide enabling environment for the youth corps members to harness their productivity for the benefit of the state.

The governor reminded the corps members of the prevalence of some diseases and medical conditions in the state, such as HIV and AIDS, saying they had affected the most active segment of the population, the youth.

Al-makura urged the corps members to exercise restraint in their conduct, so as not to get infected with the virus, and play advocacy roles in the campaign against the spread of the virus.

He also urged them to shun any act of crime and criminality such as drug abuse, theft, fraud and other social vices, capable of jeopardising their chances of realising their dreams.

The governor promised that government would create employment opportunities, through skill acquisition and vocational training programmes for youths in the state.

He said that young people would be engaged in profitable enterprises to reduce poverty and create wealth in consonance with the government’s economic empowerment initiative.

Mr Stephen Alabi, the NYSC state Coordinator, had earlier urged employers of labour to give the corps members the needed support, so that they could exhibit their skills.

He appealed to them to assist in providing the corps members with accommodation to enable them to settle down to work.

Mr Joseph Emmanuel, a youth corps member, said he was not too happy that they would be leaving the camp without completing the three weeks mandatory course.
