The Feeral Polytechnic Mubi Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), on Thursday said the union was not on strike in the institution, advising members of the body to disregard such call.

The warning came barely fee hours after a faction of the union, led by Mr. Stephen Stanley, embarked on an indefinite strike, which disrupted ongoing examination in the polytechnic.

The striking workers were protesting the non-payment of 13 months academic allowances by the school’s management.

In a swift reaction to the development, another faction of the union, dismissed the strike as “illegal”.

A statement signed by its chairman, Mr. Innocent Ephraim, said the union had not called for the strike.

It said the purported strike violated labour laws and charter which required that the union must issue a 21-day ultimatum before embarking on the industrial action.

“ASUP has not declared any industrial disputes nor asked its members to proceed on any industrial action.

“In the light of this, we urge all law-abiding members of the chapter to go about their normal duties,” it added.
