Commissioner Charts Path For State-Owned Media
The Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, says state-owned media houses particularly The Tide Newspaper need the support of both government and private organisations in the state to survive.
Mrs. Semenitari who said this during the Workers Parliament organised by the Management of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC) as part of the 40th years anniversary of the corporation said the idea of patronising Lagos-based media organisations for printing and other activities was robbing state-owned organisations of the needed funds to grow.
The commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ms Kadilo Brown also stressed the need for staff and management of the corporation to be committed and dedicated to duty, stressing that it was the only way of enhancing the fortunes of the corporation.
In his welcome address, the General Manager of the Corporation, Mr. Celestine Ogolo said that The Tide had continued to remain one of the papers to be reckoned with in the country.
Mr. Ogolo also said the corporation since inception had produced great men and women across the length and breadth of Nigeria.
The General Manager however said that as the corporation marks its 40th anniversary, the workers must brace up for the challenges ahead, warning that there would be no room for excuses on the part of the work force.
In his sermon, Pastor Jerry Dadi of God’s Citadel Church predicted that God will take the corporation to greater glory in the scheme of things.
Highlights of the event was the presentation of awards to retiring staff of the corporation.
