Mr. Mohammed Dan-Hassan, Head, FCT Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department, says the department has held a workshop to sensitise residents of Bwari Area Council on what to do in emergency situations.

Dan-Hassan told our source I Bwari on yesterday that the workshop was necessary to enlighten the residents on what to do n the event of flood, fire diseases and man-made crises.

He said the workshop was also conducted to raise awareness on how to guarantee safety during emergency water supply crisis.

“The workshop is basically to raise the awareness and our consciousness on the need to have a plan in case of emergency situations.

“A lot of things happen in this country, but we are not really prepared for it; emergency situations don’t really give you notices.

“When they occur, if you are not very observant, you may not notice until they really happen.

“The workshop is to sensitise the water and sanitation officers at the area council level on what is expected,” Dan-Hassan said.

He said the issue of water, sanitation and hygiene must be taken into consideration in any emergency situation, to avoid the outbreak of diseases.

“In emergency situations, you evacuate people to safe areas and you have to deal with the problem of water, sanitation and hygiene in that environment and in their present environment,” he said.

Dan-Hassan commended the FCT Water Board and UNICEF for their efforts at addressing emergency situations.
