Amaechi Tasks Ikwerre Communities On Peace

Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, has called on all warring Ikwerre communities to embrace peace in order to attract development.

Amaechi gave the charge during the 193rd convention of the umbrella body of Ikwerres, Ogbakor Ikwerre Convention held at Ovogo Odegnu community in Emohua Local Government Area of the state earlier in the week.

The Governor emphasised that there was no way development would come into such communities unless they sheath their swords and embrace peace, while assuring that his administration is poised towards ensuring that there was even development in the hinterlands.

Amaechi maintained that security remained a major focus of the government even as he warned parents to advise their youths to stop violence in those areas.

On secret cultism, he said, we are doing so much on security and what we are doing in the past two weeks is to catch the criminal elements. So if you don’t want us to extend to you parents, you have to help us to secure the villages but stressed the need for all to help better the communities”.

The Governor stated that most Ikwerre communities have benefitted hugely from the government, especially through road linkage, and assured that the Ovogo Odegwu road would be awarded to create access to the interior.

He informed the people of  government plan to provide employment through some of the rejuvenated public companies in the area including RISONPALM and the Rice Farm at Rumuewhor which he assured would provide over 3000 jobs once they come on stream.

Rt Hon Amaechi remarked that things are getting better as the lots of the citizenry in the rural areas are being improved upon”.

Speaking earlier, President of Ogbakor Ikwerre Convention, Chief Sampson Agbaru commended the Governor for making the Ikwerre people proud through his laudable achievements and projects.”

Chief Agbaru further remarked that despite the criticisms that have trailed the Amaechi led government, it had brought unprecedented development to Rivers State while assuring the Governor of their unflinching support.”

He called on the Ikwerre people to unite in prayers and support the government, as he harped on the need for the people to embrace peace to foster brotherly love and unity amongst the ethnic nationality.
