UNPP, SDMP Win Degema Councillorship Polls

Tekena Hamilton Dappa of the United Nigeria Peoples Party (UNPP) and Dokubo Tekena of the Social Democratic Mega Party (SDMP) have won the local government councillorship re-run elections in wards two and seven, respectively in the Degema Local Government council elections held last Saturday.

According to the result released by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, (RSINC) after the election indicated that the UNPP candidate defeated other political party candidates with 114 votes while the SDMP candidate won with 13 votes.

Chairmanship and councillorship election in Degema Local Government Areas were held on 17th September, 2011 but no councillors were elected for these wards following disruption of the elections.

In Ward 7, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored the highest number of votes cast at the elections but had no candidate.

The commission in the release signed by the Director of Publication Sam Woka said that the first nominee of the PDP Dede Ofoji Obarabi was not a registered voter of the ward following the rejection of the first nominee, the party substituted Dabo Oruwari Dakoru who did not purchase, complete and submit his nomination form.

Woka noted that the second nominee of the PDP was not qualified for screening and was also not also eligible to contest.

This he said, the party that scored the second highest number of vote, SDMP was declared winner of the election in ward 7.
