S’Africa Recalls Foreign Players For Mandela’s Cup
South Africa Football Association (SAFA) expects Bafana Bafana’s foreign-based players to start arriving in the country today.
Bafana will play in the Nelson Mandela Challenge Cup against Ivory Coast on November 12 and another international friendly against Zimbabwe at Rufaro Stadium in Harare three days later.
Speaking to Tidesports source, Safa media officer, Matlhomola Morake revealed that the locally-based members of the national team will report for camp immediately after this weekend’s Telkom knockout matches.
“The team will be based in Port Elizabeth and they were expected to start their camp yesterday, after the weekend matches. Foreign based players will start coming from today and we expect them to immediately report for camp.
“We will also take part in a number of events in conjunction with the city of Port Elizabeth, besides the training that the players will undergo,” says Morake.
Pitso Mosimane is eager to do well in the two friendlies, following the Africa Cup of Nations bungle.
Ivory Coast – who are the number-one ranked team in Africa – have named a strong side to face South Africa, mostly composed of European-based players.
Zimbabwe were expected to name their squad Friday.
