RVHA Speaker Tasks US Envoy, EU On Capacity Building
The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Otelemaba Amachree, has called for greater involvement of the United State envoy and the European Union in the development of Nigeria Democracy.
Amachree made the call during a courtesy call on him by the US consul General, His Excellency Joseph Safford and his team in his office in Port Harcourt.
The Speaker said Nigeria as an emerging democracy stands to benefit from the wealth of experience of the European Union and the United State in terms of Programmes that will build capacity in Nigeria.
He noted that Rivers State, under the leadership of Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi as Governor as poised to partner with international organisations especially, the United States of America and the European Union in promoting direct foreign investment in the state. He described the visit as timely, adding that it will usher in a new frontiers in terms of capacity building and economic development of the Niger Delta.
The Speaker also called on the US Envoy to assist in the training of members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for better and effective representation.
Earlier, the leader of the Team, Joseph Safford sad they were in the Assembly to identify with the development objective of the state. Safford said, his team was also concerned about seeking corporation with the Rivers State Government in terms of improving the health condition of people through the eradication of deadly deceases like polio, HIV/AID among others.
