RSHA Moves To Protect Sports Facilities In Rivers

The Chairman, House Committee on Sports Matters in the Rivers State house of Assembly, Hon. Kelechi Nwogu, has said that sporting facilities in the state would not be used for other purposes.

Hon. Nwogu, who is representing Omuma Local Government Area, in the state assembly disclosed this when members of League of Sports Writers (LSW) paid him a courtesy visit in his office, in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

He stated that sports is important to life, besides, being a profession, where people earn their living pointing out that such facilities should be used appropriately.

He further revealed that the committee would soon embark on facilities tour, as part of its oversight function.

According to him, the tour is to enable the committee understand happenings in the sports sector in the state and facilities on ground.

“As part of our oversight function the House Committee on Sports will soon embark on facilities tour to see things by ourselves.

“We will also ensure that sporting facilities in the state are not used for other purposes,” Hon. Nwogu said.

The lawmaker however commended the LSW for its vision and good works especially enlightenment as sports development from the grassroots and appealed to the body to give the committee adequate publicity in the state.

Hon. Nwogu also assured the organisation that his committee would partner with them to achieve the state government’s desire for sports development.

Earlier, the chairman of LSW, China Acheru said the association would assist in various ways to develop grassroots sports in the state.

Acheru, therefore listed the achievements of his organisation which include organising seminars, discovery of talents, giving out free tickets to fans to watch Premier League matches in the state and promotion of Sports through enlightenment.
