Royal Father Charges Group On Peace
The Supreme Head, Ogoni Council of Traditional Rulers and the Gbenemene Tai in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, King G.K. Giniwa has enjoined members of Ogoni Movement for Economic Liberation (OMEL) to always maintain their peaceful disposition so that their desire for good things to come to Ogoniland through economic emancipation would come to fruition.
King Giniwa, who gave the advice when members of the organisation paid him a courtesy visit at his palace said development could only come to the area, when there is peace, urging them to shun violence and preach peace at all times.
He assured then of his backing in their plans to move Ogoniland forward and called on all youths to respect elders and constituted authorities.
The Royal father said dialogue is the best solution to solving problems and promised to convey their apology to Bishop Matthew Kuka on their disrespective manner exhibited sometime, while on a peace mission to the area.
Earlier, the facilitator of Ogoni movement for Economic Liberation, Mr Kadilo Kabari blamed the backwardness of Ogoniland on leadership tussle as well as lack of sense of direction, and disclosed that the body would work with elected representatives of the area to further bring development and progress into the area as well as attract investors.
Mr Kabari disclosed that any oil company that satisfied the demands of the Ogoni people was free to come and negotiate and resume work in the area as the youths have resolved to embrace peace and development.
He, however, apologised to Bishop Kuka for the ungentlemanly behaviour metted to him at Methodist Church, Bori, saying that the action was due to misinformation from their leaders, which the youths later found out that it was based on selfish interest, and assured the Royal Father of their unalloyed support and loyalty to move Ogoniland forward.
The movement had earlier inaugurated directors to pilot the affairs of the body at the Suanu Finimale-Nwika conference Hall, Bori.
