Police Smash Robbery Gang In Rivers
The Rivers State police command, has arrested a gang of armed robbers who specialised in forcefully dispossessing people of their withdrawals from banks.
The state Police Commissioner, Mr Suleiman Abba who briefed newsmen at the Olu Obasanjo Police Station shortly after the men were arrested said that the gang which operate with a Toyota SUV 4 had wreaked havoc on law-abiding citizens of the state.
Mr Abba particularly said that the group was responsible for the recent robbery incident at Everyday Supermarket, Rumuola, which led to the death of a police man and a pregnant woman and the incident at the Ocean Marine Security Limited.
“This is a group that has caused a lot of havoc. They have succeeded in several places including the recent one where staff of Everyday Supermarket were conveying cash from one of their outlets.’
The commissioner also said that the group also killed one Beauty Richard Graham David while one Lucky and his brother, Prince were shot dead by the gang at Eligbam.
He also explained the method used by the gang to escape. “They used a lot of disguised to escape, part of which includes a situation where the lady keeps a baby in her front. Under every circumstances will not raise any suspicion from law enforcement officers,” he said.
Mr Abba said that the police on a tip off arrested the criminals at Amaechi Drive after chasing them from Olu Obasanjo through Casablanca.
The commissioner said that the commission was leaving no stone unturned to make the Christmas season crime free.
Mr Suleiman Abba also used the occasion to parade before newsmen six suspected kidnappers.
