Oil and Gas suppliers in the country have launched an enlighten campaign to check adulteration of petroleum products.

The group which is a branch of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) said it has commanced a nationwide sensitization of local suppliers of petroleum products.

The move, according to the group, was to educte them on the dangers of products adulteration and the heed to identify with the OGS.

The Chairman of Zenon Chapter of NUPENG, Mr. Emmanuel Nwadi was reported to have absolved the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) from the blame of adulteration, saying “it is the Petroleum Suppliers that perpetrate the atrocity because they are the owners of the product that is being transferred.”

His words: “Adulteration is not the fault of tanker drivers, the fault is from the products owners.” It is when you buy the product that you give instruction on what to do. It is the products owners or the suppliers that do the adulteration in order to make mor gains.”

He also said OGS had written to retail outlets in the country to consider any product without OGS seal as having been tampered with.

According to him, “All tanker trucks that are used for distribution of petroleum products usually have their Manholes and outlets secured with numbered seals by depot owners and  transport companies; this is the strategy that we are adopting. This is easy because no tanker truck is allowed to leave a depot without the prescribed seals.”

He assured that through the group’s efforts, the rate of adulteration in the country had reduced drastically and added that a lot of people have stopped engaging in the act.
