The President National School Sports Federation (NSSF) Ibrahim Muhammad, on Wednesday berated states that did not present team at the 4th National School Sports festival.

Muhammad told Tidesports in Calabar that such attitude was detrimental to the children’s right to physical and intellectual development.

He said that NSSF would send warning letters to all such states.

They also risked further sanctions.

The president said that sanctions could have been better option, but the federation considered that outright sanctions would adversely affect the children in the long run.

No fewer than 23 states participated in 22 sports at the festival tagged ‘’Calabar 2011″.

Muhammad said although the turnout was good, the absentee states created an impression.

“Are they saying that unifying Nigerian Children through sports is not important? is it not good to give the child education and sport?

“Is it not important to bring children to interact with their peer groups; what would you achieve in a poor social, physical and mental development of the child?

“We expect the national associations to come here and see the young ones on ground and stop using over-aged people to represent Nigeria in sporting meet. We have the right age in NSSF.”
