NOA Seeks Programmes For Orphans In Rivers

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) Rivers State, has stressed the need for the implementation of policies and programmes that cater for the welfare of orphans and vulnerable children in the state.

The State Director of the Agency,  Chief Andy Nweye who said this in an interview with newsmen shortly after the Great Hope Walk 2011 organised by Hope Worldwide Nigeria, a non governmental organisation at the weekend in Port Harcourt, also stressed the need for privileged members of the society to cultivate the habit of giving support to orphans and vulnerable children in the society.

He explained that privilege class can do this by taking care of the need of this class of children.

The NOA Director who also commended the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) programme of the wife of the Governor  Mrs Judith Amaechi for giving hope to the hopeless, also stressed the need for the programme to establish its presence in every nooks and crannies of the state.

The programme officer of Hope Worldwide Nigeria Mrs Bumi Adetula said that the great walk 2011 which is an annual event was meant to draw societal attention to the plight of the orphans and vulnerable children in the society. The walk is actually to create awareness on the plight of orphans and vulnerable children and to seek support from corporate bodies and individuals for the children’s education, nutrition and social support,” she said.
