An Enugu based Non -Organization (NGO), Centre for Reform Education Initiative (CREI) has applauded the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi ,  for leading the service to exceed the 2011 Federal Government’s target on revenue collection.

The Executive director of the organization, Hon. Chinwe Ugwu, who made the commendation Monday while briefing newsmen in Enugu, expressed happiness that NCS has already raked in over N602 billion into the Federal Government account, even with two months left before the end the year.

She also praised the NCS boss for his exemplary leadership, adding that  the Customs Service under Dikko  Abdullahi has recorded landmark achievements in the last few years.

Nigeria, She noted, with committed and patriotic public servants such as the CGS, would certainly be transformed,  pointing out  that the feat was an indication that reforms in the Nigerian Customs were realistic.

Her words: “We want to commend the CGS, Alhaji Dikko Abdullhi for meeting up the revenue target before the end of the year. We also commend officers and men of the Service for a job well done. This is a no mean feat and all Nigerians must acknowledge the good works of the NCS.

The Centre for Reform Education Initiative, as a reform organization, she went on, “is proud of the CGS and his team”, and urged them not to rest on their oars but continue to work assiduously to completely transform the Service in line with the transformational agenda of President Good luck Jonathan.

The Executive director equally  praised the CGS for his patriotism and hard work stressing  that the achievement was an off shoot of discipline and strict implementation of the law.

According to her, the NCS under Dikko Abdullahi  has also  been able to put in place stringent measures to closely monitor revenue performance and block leakages.

Ugwu also  hailed  the initiative of the CGS by creating a System-Audit Unit (SAU) in Abuja, to monitor duty payment in all ports, via the automation of the entire Customs Clearance Procedure saying the automation of excise payment procedures had also greatly helped to block leakages associated with the local manufacturing sector.
