NAWOJ Restates Stand On Grassroots Women Sensitisation

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Rivers State Chapter has re-iterated its commitment to sensitise grassroot women and children on government programmes.

Chairman of NAWOJ, Miss Enale Kodu who stated this when members of the executive paid a courtesy visit on the chairman of Ikwerre LGA, Mr Welendu Amadi, in his office stated that the level of ignorance among the women has become a source of great concern to the body.

The chairman who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Mrs Calista Ezeaku explained that a lot of women in the rural areas are not aware of the programmes and facilities available for them by government which are of immense benefits to them.

Mrs Ezeaku said, the body worked in collaboration with NGOs, local government chairmen, and other agencies to ensure that the women are reached and informed about programmes such as the free medical care, health centres and free education amongst others.

She recalled that NAWOJ in collaboration with the preventive healthcare initiative last month organised a cancer awareness programme to educate the youths on healthy lifestyle and also solicited the support of the chairman.

In his response, chairman of Ikwerre LGA, Mr. Welendu Amadi commended the association for its programmes, especially in the area of sensitisation which he emphasised was very important in the communities.

Mr. Amadi expressed joy what NAWOJ was helping the government achieve its programmes by making the women aware of them and promised to do all within his reach to support the programmes of NAWOJ in the LGA, especially the awareness campaign.

According to him, the council is planning a lot of programmes for the women and children such as loan facilities, procurement of cassava stem for farmers and the building of a recreation centre for them.

The chairman who emphasised on the importance of sensitisation, charged NAWOJ not to relent, adding that it will go a long way to help the women benefit from government programmes.
