The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) has stressed need for a renewed search for alternative energy sources due to escalating global demand for energy.

President of the Association Mr Jide Ojo said this in Lagos while highlighting its forthcoming 29th International Conference and Exhibition slated for between November 28 and December 1 in Lagos.

According to Ojo, forecast from various recognised organisations and institutions indicate that global demand for energy will continue to rise into the next decade and beyond.

“A significant proportion of the projected increase in energy demand is expected to be met by fossil fuels.

“And there is, therefore, an ever increasing pressure in discovering new oil and gas reserves, he said.

The theme of the conference is “Perspectives on Growing Hydro-carbon Reserves in the Next Decade.”

He explained that it was selected because one of the potential drivers for growth of the sector is a renewed search for alternative energy sources.

Ojo said: “Nations endowed with hydro-carbon reserves will need to create and sustain a business environment that will attract greater investment and facilitate processes that will further promote exploration and post-exploration activities aimed at harnessing hydro-carbon resources.

“The ultimate aim is to drive maximum value for all stakeholders in an environmentally friendly way.
