In its efforts to rid the country of unwholesome drugs, the   National Agency for Food  Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC),  on Friday  during a mop up exercise at the Ogbete main market,  Enugu  seized fake drugs worth over  N2.5 million.

The Acting Head, South East zonal office of the Agency, Mr. Udekpo Ekpo,  who disclosed this to newsmen in Enugu  said officials of NAFDAC swooped  on the market on a  tip – off that there were a lot of  fake and adulterated drugs in the market.

His words: “This excise was actually necessitated by report that  there are some fake brand of anti malaria drugs in Ogbete main  market.  Some of them are in the market without NAFDAC registration number, and we always carry  out such   exercise to make sure that only  genuine drugs are sold in Nigeria markets”.

According to him, fake drugs confiscated during the exercise included Lonat DS, Lofnac 100mg, Funbact-A cream among others.

Mr. Ekpo also disclosed that dealers have already been invited to NAFDAC office Enugu, for  further action and possibly tracking down of  the importers of such dangerous drugs capable of sending  users to their untimely grave.
