My husband quarrels with me. He always complains that 1 pray too much,” Mrs Shadiat Akingbade, 28, on Monday told an Agege Customary Court in Lagos,

Akingbade, who asked the court to dissolve her three-year-old marriage to Akeem Akingbade, 30, alleged that her mechanic husband made a mockery of her religious beliefs and prevented her from practising it.

“He has been keeping malice with me for several weeks, He is usually uncomfortable whenever 1 pray at night.

“He once threw away my praying mat, claiming that 1 have been praying in vain. I don’t understand him anymore. 1 don’t know why he is against prayers. 1 thought he should be happy that he has a prayerful wife,” she said.

Akingbade also accused Akeem of failure to perform his responsibilities, saying that he was fond of cursing their child instead of providing for his needs.

“He has been given me N100 per day for the child’s upkeep and have told him several times that the money is not enough, but he has remained adamant

“He curses the little boy. He has been taunting me that he will soon send me away with our son to marry another woman. I can no longer bear it 1 am ready to leave him for good,” she said.

Akeem, however, denied the allegations, claiming that her wife had been praying in vain.
