Minister Seeks Understanding Over ‘Stop And Search’ In Abuja

As the federal government intensifies ‘stop and search’ in Abuja to checkmate the spate of insecurity, FCT Minister, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has called for understanding and cooperation from residents, especially motorists. Mohammed who gave this charge, while receiving the Police Affairs Minister, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (Rtd), who paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Area 11, Garki I District, Abuja said that such check and search system is necessary for now, because the country is being challenged by insecurity and terrorism.

The Minister however advised the Nigeria Police Force to procure equipments with new technology that can detect explosives and harmful weapons without necessarily stopping the vehicles in order to reduce the present discomfort. Senator Mohammed assured the FCT residents that the government was on top of the ugly situation especially with the on-going Close Circuit Television (CCTV) project in the Federal Capital City.

He remarked that the Nigeria Police Force has been a crime prevention in the Federal Capital Territory as worthy of commendation.

The Minister revealed that the Central Business District, Abuja will be given heightened security network because that area is supposed to be nerve centre of the city.

Senator Mohammed directed that Police Stations be enclaves in the Federal Capital Territory to give needed security attention.

The Minister reiterated that all these arrangements have been put on ground in line with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan as well as the vision of his administration.

Speaking earlier, the Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (Rtd) assured that the insecurity in country will be tackled head long and called for continued collaboration amongst stakeholders.

He asked the FCT Administration to assist in the building of Police Stations in the Central Business and Lokogomo Districts respectively.

Olubolade also urged the FCT Administration to provide Primary Health Care Service at the Jibi Resettlement Houses where thousands of Policemen reside.
