Man Bags 5-Year Jail For Stealing

A 24 year-old man, Saviour Banatene has been sentenced to five years imprisonment with hard labour by a Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court presided over by E.C. Woke for stealing.

The convict was tried on a one court charge of stealing.

The prosecuting police officer, Sergent C. Nnokwe had earlier told the court that the convict on the 18th of May 2009, at No 9 Ernest Ikoli Old GRA within preview of the Port Harcourt Magisterial District did stole the sum of $22,000 US dollars property of one Mr Stephen Poroma.

Sergent Nnokwe stated that the convict, Mr Saviour Banatene committed a punishable offence under section 390 (90) of the criminal code cap 37 vol.11 Laws of Rivers State.

The convict, Mr Saviour Banatene pleaded guilty to the charge saying that he stole the money from the defendant at Abonnema Wharf road and pleaded for mercy.  Sentencing the convict, the presiding Chief Magistrate Court, E.C Woke said Mr Saviour Banateme committed the offence charged against and directed that he should serve five years prison term with hard labour so as to serve as a deterant to others.
