A fifty-year-old man, Aaron Eyo, has been arraigned before a Port Harcourt magistrate for allegedly raping a ten-year-old girl.

Mr. Aaron Eyo was said to have defiled Miss Christiana Ekpo by inserting his finger and penis into the girl’s vulva thereby rupturing the hymen.

According to the prosecution, the act caused severe pains to the victim.

The prosecuting police officer, Sergeant Aaron Nsirem told the court that the accused person on October 13, 2011 had pretended  to buy “accra” from the victim, at Sand fill Waterfront, when he suddenly dragged the latter into his room, raped her and warned her not to disclose the act to anybody.

The prosecution told the court while reading the charge to the accused that the offence committed was punishable under Section  358 of the Criminal Code,  Laws of Rivers  State (1999).

The presiding magistrate, Mrs C.J Oreh, however, declined jurisdiction and ordered that the accused person be remanded in prison custody. The matter was adjourned to 16th November, 2011.
