Institute Hails Reps On Democracy

The Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria, has commended the leadership of the 7th House of Representatives for embracing the fundamentals of democracy in its dealings.

The Institute which made the commendation in a letter addressed to the House and made available to The Tide praised the House for its commitment and recognition that under democracy, the people are sovereign.

Chief co-ordinator of the institute in the South-South zone, Mr. Friday Udoh and its Chief Registrar/General secretary, Mr. Peter Ikamega also commended the House for choosing the path of integrity.

According to the institute, the House had accepted the path of  integrity which was an indication of a positive model that incorporates the informative phenomena of morality, ethics and legality.

The institute in the letter advised the current leadership of the House to continue to pursue and sustain its integrity of sustaining the fundamentals of democracy, adding that this will lead to positive transformation and trust.

The body however, called on the House to intervene on the steel sector, education, energy and embark on study that would enhance research and technological improvement.

It, however, implored the  House to increase its funding during the 2012 budget so as to take care of engagement of experts  and encourage its inhouse research team.

The body said the increase in funding would go a long way in reducing workload on members as it will accord the House efficiency in issues.
