Igbos Interest Over Ojukwu’s Health Excites Wife, Bianca
The Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, on Diaspora Matters and wife of former Biafran Warlord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Barrister Bianca Ojukwu, has expressed deep appreciation to the Igbos, especially the governor of Anambra state, Mr. Peter Obi and Nigerians in general for their concern over her husband’s present condition of health in a London hospital.
The Presidential aide who made her feelings known last Friday on the occasion of the 78 Birthday celebration organised for her husband in absential at their GRA residence, Enugu said: “It is your prayers and goodwill that has been sustaining my husband since this trying moment”, urging the people not to relent in their prayers for his complete recovery.
According to her, governor Obi has really shown love to Ojukwu, especially since almost one year he was flown abroad for medical treatment, adding that the Anambra state chief executive, has made it a point of duty to visit the sick erstwhile All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) presidential candidate on a monthly basis in a London hospital where “he is fast recuperating” .
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of South East Governor’s Forum and governor of Anambra state, Mr. Peter Obi, challenged Ndigbo to rise up and take their destiny in their own hands, stressing that as a people, the time has come for them to come together and start speaking with one voice with a view to lunching the race into the nation’s scheme of things.
Also in his remarks during the event which was organised by the leadership of Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), the Imo state governor, chief Rochas Okorocha, described Ojukwu as the pillar of the Igbo nation.
He, therefore, charged Ndigbo to use the occasion of the birthday celebration to review the current political situation of South East zone, which he said, had remained a source of worry to him and other Igbo leaders.
The governor further urged the Igbos to always imbibe what he called “the spirit Igboness” in all they do, declaring that Ndi Igbo are special “species” created by God in Nigeria.
The interdenominational church service which heralded the celebration held inside Ojukwu’s palatial residence, was officiated by Rev. Fr. professor Obiora Ike , of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu.
Present at the event were senator Uche Chukwumerije, Senator Chris Ngige ex-Senator Ben Obi, immediate past governor of Imo state, chief Ikedi Ohakim, factional chairman of APGA, chief Victor Umeh, Anglican Bishop of Enugu, Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Olisa Chukwuma, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, professor Chukwuma Soludo, MASSOB national leader, chief Ralph Uwazurike, among other distinguished personalities.
