Group Donates N.4m Materials To Schools
An NGO, Sam Otoboeze Foundation, has donated education materials worth N400,000 to public primary schools in Igboetiti Local Government of Enugu State.
Presenting the materials in Igboetiti, the Coordinator of the NGO, Mr Sam Otoboeze, said the gesture was aimed at improving the quality of education in the area.
“I am a product of a public school and that is why I deemed it necessary to improve teaching and learning in public schools.
“Most parents now prefer private schools to public schools; a situation that has left the public schools to be on the verge of collapse,’’ he said.
Otoboeze urged government to evolve a policy that would make it mandatory for teachers in public schools to enroll their children and wards in the institutions where they teach.
“I believe this will inculcate discipline and seriousness among teachers and in turn, strengthen public schools,’’ he said.
Receiving the materials, which included exercise books, chalks, pencils, biro and crayons, the state Commissioner for Education, Mr Simon Ortuanya, commended Otoboeze’s kindness.
In his remarks, the PDP Chairmanship candidate in the December 10 local council elections, Mr Festus Ozoemena, described Otoboeze’s donation as worthy of emulation.
