Mohammed Inname, the Special Adviser on Sports to Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State, has said that the governor has approved N4 million for the purchase of sports equipment for the zonal sports offices.

Inamme told Tidesports in Sokoto that the governor’s action was geared towards the reactivation of the state’s four zonal sports offices.

He said that the zonal sports offices that would benefit from the project were Gada, Wurno, Sokoto South and Gwadabawa.

“These offices had been abandoned for over 20 years now and this administration wants to reactivate them.

“So, the money is to be used for the renovation of existing structures of the zonal offices and for the purchase of sports equipment, particularly for handball, volleyball and athletics,” Inname said.

The special adviser stressed that the state was planning to reclaim its pride of place as the leaders in handball, volleyball and athletics.

“So, Governor Wamakko approved the project as part of efforts to revive these sports as well as boost grassroots sports and talents hunt.

“We want to revive the three sports and restore our lost glory in them. The state used to be the best in them in the 1970s and 1980s,” he said.

Inname also said that state government intended to revive sporting activities in its primary, secondary schools and tertiary educational institutions across the state.
