Doping Test For African Junior Swimmers

As the 9th African Junior Swimming Championship kicks-off in Port Harcourt, on Friday,  swimmers billed to participate in the competition would under go doping test.

This was disclosed by the chairman of the Main Organising Committee (MOC) Fashina Thomas, in an exclusive interview with Tidesports, in Port Harcourt on Monday.

According to him, the Swimmers would be randomly picked for the doping test, under the Anti-Doping Agency Law of the international body of the Federation.

“We have contacted doctors from the state ministry of health and members of African Swimming body (ANA) have been commissioned to handle the doping test” Thomas said.

He further disclosed that two ambulances have been set aside from the health ministry and university of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital as well as medical personnel to care of any emergency situation.

The MOC chairman, explained that the doping test is necessary because the records set in this competition would be recorded as world records, saying that cheating would not be allowed in al ramifications.

He used the opportunity to advice swimmers not to use any substance that would test positive which would end their carrier  at this early stage.
