Court Remands Man For Attempted Murder

A middle aged man, Mr. Nmezi Sylvester, has been remanded in prison custody in Port Harcourt, Rivers State for stabbing Princess Dean Igho with a sharp object.

Mr. Nmezi 38, is standing trial before a Port Harcourt Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate B.H. Abe on a three count charge of attempt to kill, stabbing and  intent to maim

The prosecuting police officer, Inspector Deezim Kagbaranee told the court that the accused person on the 18th of October, 2011 at Shell Location Area Ada-George off Iwofe Road, in the Port Harcourt Magisterial Division did attempt to kill Princess Dean Igho.

According to the prosecuting police officer, the accused person stabbed Princess Dean Igho with a sharp object that pierced and disabled her left eye which caused her to bleed unconsciously and added that such act caused her grievous harm.

He further told the court that the accused also on that date and place within the jurisdiction of the court with intent to maim, disfigure and disable one Princess Dean Igho did unlawfully wound her by stabbing her on the left eye.

Inspector Kagbaranee stated that the offences committed were punishable under section 320 (1), 335 and 332 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 11 Laws of Rivers State 1999.

The presiding Magistrate, Magistrate B. H. Abe remanded the accused in the prison custody and adjourned the matter to November 25, 2011.
