The Ke Community Trust, Degema Local Government Area, last Tuesday gave out starter packs worth over N5million to 30 skill acquisition beneficiaries in three trades divided into ten persons in each trade.

This is in accordance with the General Memorandum of Understanding (GMOU) between the community and Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).

The trades are Hair dressing, Fashion and designing / sewing, and catering and House keeping.

Speaking at the occasion in Port Harcourt, the Ke CT chairman, Mr Ngoye Benebo, revealed that the 30 graduands are the last batch to be trained in skills acquisition in the Ke Community under the current GMOU.

According to Mr Benebo, the next phase of the GMOU will focus on infrastructural development in the community, occasioned by the fact that some of the previous graduants in various trades have failed to effectively use the skills so acquired to their advantage.

He continued that Ke CT, since the inception of  the GMOU, has trained a total of 149 persons in different skills namely computer, Pipefitting, Argon welding, pipeline welding, printing and lithography, Arc Welding/Fabrication, crane operation, Hair dressing, Fashion and designing / sewing, as well as catering and housekeeping. “The Ke CT has made skill acquisition a priority due to the paucity of manpower in the above stated trades.
