Rivers State Government, has lauded Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) for its continued support of the policies and programmes of the Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi-led administration in the state.

The state deputy governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru, stated this yesterday while receiving a cheque of N3.5 million from SPDC in support of the last 17th National Sports Festival, Garden City Games 2011, presented on behalf of the company by its Head, Governmental Affairs, East, Mr. Otonye Davies, in Government House, Port Harcourt.

He said the state government remains appreciative of SPDC’s support, assuring of its continued partnership in its developmental programmes, noting that the money would go a long way in defraying some yet-to-be settled costs accrued during the festival and thanked the company for the gesture.

Earlier, Mr. Otonye Davies had expressed regrets that the money came a little belated, but noted that it was part of SPDC’s corporate social responsibility to the state in respect of the 17th National Sport Festival.
