VC Restates Varsity’s Mission

Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Nkpolu, Port Harcourt, says it is working towards solving the peculiar problems of the Niger Delta region in the area of petroleum and technological  education.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. B.B. Fakae who stated this shortly after inspecting the various stands of exhibition  mounted by the various departments of the university, said the institution would rekindle the hope of the region in the area of science and other technological areas.

According to him, the exhibition which was part of the preparation for the 19th convocation was able to prove that some of the  problems of the Niger Delta could be solved if the government and multinational companies cooperated with the institution.

“We are working to regain our credibility as an institution accredited to study science and technology”, he said.

The Vice Chancellor explained that the exhibition was important as it showed the nation that the university has been able to live up to its billings.

Speaking to The Tide, one of the researchers and a commissioner in Rivers State, Dr Ipalibo Harry disclosed that government was working towards producing biofertilizer in a commercial quantity.

Harry, a former chairman of the state  Environmental Sanitation Authority whose research work was on biofertilizer noted that the product which was  produced from human waste was more potent and had nutritious value more than the inorganic fertilizer.

The former sanitation boss, however, said the idea of  biofertilizer was borne out of the reckless and indiscriminate disposal of human waste in some parts of the state, adding that he decided to  put a stop to  such an act and put the substance to use.

The Vice Chancellor was conducted round the various stands by  Prof S.O. Teme  and Dr Chibuogwo L. Eze, the  research supervisors.
