VC Hails ICT Centre
The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Port Harcourt, has been adjudged the best and fastest among tertiary institutions in Rivers State.
The Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Rosemund Green-Osahogulu, made the observation, recently when the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Developemnt Goals (MDGs), Dr. Precious Gbeneol paid her a courtesy call in her office.
Osahogulu, noted that the ICT centre started with about 26 computer sets, and had now become a centre of excellence in the state.
According to her, the centre also deals with manpower development as well as other ICT training that keep both students and staff up-to-date.
She hinted that the university would soon kick-start the building of an entrepreneurial centre as soon as funds were provided.
The Vice Chancellor explained that the gesture was part of the institution’s contribution to human capacity development and poverty reduction.
Earlier in her address, Dr. Gbeneol stressed Federal Government’s commitment towards poverty eradication and access to quality education by all Nigerians.
She maintained that adequate implementation of the goals requires collaboration from all stakeholders.
The President’s Aide also solicited cooperation from the institution for the use of its health centre and primary schools inorder to reach out to the target groups.
Meanwhile, she has lauded Governor Amaechi over his landmark achievement in infrastructure and other sectors in the state.
