The Anambra TAsksforce on Market Decongestion says it has arrested 39 unauthorised revenue collectors in Onitsha, Anambra.          The Chairman of the Taskforce, Mr Onyemalu Onuorah, told newsmen on Tuesday in Onitsha that 25 of the fake revenue collectors were arrested along Creek Road, Fegge.

According to Onuorah, 14 others were rounded-up along Onitsha-Owerri Road.

He said that the unauthorised revenue collectors were caught selling fake government emblems to drivers as well as extorting money from them.

Onuorah alleged that investigation had also revealed that the fake revenue collectors had so far defrauded the state government of millions of naira through their acts.

“Their activities have caused serious dent to the image of the government. They have been handed over to the Police for further investigation and prosecution.

“I assure you that their cases would be pursued by the government. This will serve as deterrent to others as nobody eats government money or revenue without answering for it, “ he said.

On street trading in the state, the chairman said that traders at the Upper Iweka had been relocated and gave assurances that there would be free flow of traffic on major roads to markets during and after the Yuletide.
