Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has announced indefinite postponement of the re-run election in two wards that were in conclusive in the Degema Local government area.

A statement made available to The Tide and signed by Hon Nimi Walson Jack, Commissioner in charge of Communications and Civic Education, said the election which has earlier re-scheduled for  last Saturday in wards two and seven was aborted following court injunction on the commission.  Hon Walson Jack, however, explained that the commission would only re-schedue the re-run in the affected wards when the court injunction is vacated and urged all the political parties to bear with RSIEC.

He, however, hinted that all the eleven (11) political parties affected would be duly informed of a new date in due course.

It would be recalled that RSIEC has scheduled Saturday October 8, 2011, as the date for the re-run elections into councillorship positions in two wards in Degema local government council of Rivers State.

Elections in ward two and seven were cancelled in the September 17, council election as a result of what the electoral body described as electoral fraud and hijack of electoral materials in some units of the two wards.
