Rep Challenges Women On Productivity
A member of the House of Representatives, Mr Kehinde Odeneye, has challenged women to be self reliant to avoid depending on others for survival.
Odeneye, representing Ijebu Central Federal Constituency, said Tuesday in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun, at the closing ceremony of a programme tagged “Health to Wealth Empowerment for Women”, he initiated to raise the productivity of women in the area.
The lawmaker urged the women not to succumb to poverty by engaging themselves in productive activities that would sustain them and their families.
Odeneye added that the programme was part of efforts to encourage women, especially those that were unemployed, to be self reliant and more useful to the society.
“The essence of this programme is to make women , especially the unemployed ones to be self-reliant and productive.
“ The economy of this country has become an issue, to the extent that the man of the house cannot carry the burden alone and due to this fact, there is need to empower women and make them productive.
“If women are productive, it would go a long way to assist their husbands and with both of them coming together, it would make the family to be more stronger financially.
“If you train a woman, you train the nation because women are more passionate about their family and the society at large,” the lawmaker said.
About more than 400 women trained on Izal, dettol, liquid soap and bleach making were issued with certificates and raw materials to start off their businesses.
