Oliseh Keen To Take Technical Director Post

Following the disastrous performance of Nigeria’s Super Eagles and their ouster from the 2012 African Nations Cup, former Nigeria Skipper Sunday Oliseh has said he is ready to work for the country.

At the weekend, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced that a technical director be appointed without delay and Oliseh has long been linked with that top post.

“It is always an honour to serve Nigeria and I’m ready to help us get out of the current mess,” said Oliseh, who was axed from the country’s 2002 World Cup Squad after he stood up to officialdom.

“Not qualifying for the next Nations Cup was a huge humiliation and it was not what we bargained for.

“Like I told them when I was contacted for the position, I was prepared, but I won’t pour water into a basket. If I know that there is a Calabash that will hold water then I am ready.

“I’m available for the job because I can’t let my country down at this point.”

Reports suggested that negotiations between the NFF and Oliseh broke down over what he would be paid, but Oliseh insisted it was much more than that.

An international for over ten years, Oliseh was part of the Eagles “Golden generation’ who won the 1994 Nations Cup in Tunisia and featured at the country’s World Cup debut same year.

Oliseh is one of the most formally qualified Nigerians to work in the technical department as besides playing for some of the world’s top clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Ajax Amsterdam, he has also attained several top coaching licenses in Europe.

“I played in four top leagues in Europe and won some titles, but I still had to get certified as a coach,” said our former defensive midfielder.

“I have prepared myself in the last three years even after playing for some of the best clubs in the world.

“What we need now are the right professionals to be part of our football because we must rebuild with the right people at the right places.”
