The NNPC/Chevron joint venture has donated Information and Technology (IT) equipment to Rivers University of Science and Technology in a bid to strengthen Information and Communication Technology (ICT) programme, in the institution.

The items include four printers, two server workstations, multimedia equipment, seven auto cad software licenses, modelling software and licenses among others.

The general manager, Nigerian content development, Mr. Raymond Wilcox, who made the donation, Saturday during the convocation ceremony at RSUST, said it was part of the company’s effort to boost learning in the state.

“We believe that the donation of these items will serve to enhance the quality of science and technology education in the university and help to bridge the gap between fresh university graduates and industry requirements”, he said.

Wilcox said the improvement of educational amenities and the enhancement through roburst training programmes will boost the development of local capabilities in the various sectors of the country’s economy especially in science and technology.

He recalled that the company (Chevron), has before now donated several IT equipment, software, and other equipment to different schools in the state.

The manager noted that outside the donation of IT and other equipment to schools, the joint venture has awarded scholarship to over 6000 Nigerians in the tertiary institutions across the country.

The donations, he said, was possible through the support of the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi and the entire state.

It would be recalled that the Rivers State University of Science and Technology is among the first universities in the country that have an up-to-date information and communication technology (ICT) centre.
