NIPOST Repackages For Better Services
The Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST), has repackaged its traditional services in order to properly adjust into the fast growing information and communication Technology (ICT) world.
The area postal manager, Rivers Territory of NIPOST, Mr. Austin Ebodili said this in Port Harcourt recently during the celebration of this year’s world post day/customers forum. Ebodili, noted that postal administration has taken advantage of communication and information technology, by introducing hybrid products through its traditional mail operation and electronic communication.
According to him the communication has ushered in a plethora of innovations for effective mailing.
Some of such innovations, he said include Track and trace, parcel sorting through Barcode and optical character recognition. The Nipost executive also explained that material handling facilities as well re-engineering of postal infrastructure brought about other customer-convenience and friendly facilities like precision Electronic Postal weighing machines (AP.Series).
He said that neighborhood dusters, frankling /stamp canceling machines, Automated conveyers among others, have placed NIPOST top in the ICT industry. “There are hundreds of postal Engineering companies that are utilizsing IT and communication Technology to develop postal infrastructure like, Hytech Scale ply limited. Australia, Bell Howell, USA, NEC Corporation, Japan, Data Logic, Italy etc” he added.
NIPOST, he said is looking up in the web of international postal development and operation, adding that it has concert adapted trained personnel and others in a bid to be at par with counterpart postal administrations. Ebodili, further narrated how NIPOST’s quest to meet desire of their diverse customers led to the introduction of other repackaged services such as post, parcel/cargo post, post shop among others. The Tide gathered that the Federal Government has awakened the jettisoned fixing of adhesive postage stamps on receipts for all transactions. Meanwhile, Ebodili has called on communities to make best use of the post office boxes issued to them as he appealed for the renting of thousands of its len-rented boxes.
