NIMET Advises Airlines On Weather Condition
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), has advised airline operators to exercise caution because of the poor visibility being experienced in some parts of the country as the rainy seasons draws to an end.
The Director-General of NIMET, Dr Anthony Anuforum who gave the advice while giving update on the weather condition said airlines must exercise utmost caution to avoid any development that might threaten air safety.
According to him, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) is closely monitoring the receding rainy season and gradual setting of the dry season from northern part of the country.
“It is important to state here that the dry season is usually characterised by the presence of increased concentration of dust particles due to transportation into the country. In this regard, the public will be promptly informed of any lifting of dust particles at the source regions, trajectory of such dust particles and the likely impacts in the country.
He urged the airline operators to be cautions of the possible impacts associated with the end of rainy season which include very strong surface wins, thunderstorms and fog.
“The dust haze which comes in the dry season, normally impairs horizontal visibility and is hazardous to safe flight operations. Road users are also advised to exercise caution under such weather conditions”, he said.
