Nigerians In Diaspora Rue Super Eagles Non-Qualification: 2012 Nations Cup
Some Nigerians resident in Britain have said that a lack of patriotism as exhibited by the Super Eagles players led to their elimination from next year’s Africa Cup of Nations by the Syli Nationale of Guinea..
The sports enthusiasts, who spoke to the Western Europe Tidesports’ source in London, expressed displeasure at the poor performance of the Eagles.
They stressed that the reasons for such a poor performance must be looked into.
“While I am still angrily ashamed to identify with the Super Eagles upon their non qualification for the Africa Cup of Nation, we must also look at the reasons why they crashed out,’’ said Bolaji Lewis, a Network Security Manager.
“Our boys created many chances and converted only two. They lacked high level technical coaching needed to stay at the top level.
“They lacked the passion of patriotism, hence their lacklustre performance in converting their chances into goals, despite dominating the game,’’ Lewis said in an interview with our source.
“We cannot sit back and continue to rue our situation not qualifying for the tournament,’’ Lewis said, adding: “we should start to build a squad that will prosecute our 2014 World Cup campaign”.
He suggested that some players in the current squad should be dropped while new ones should be groomed.
Alistair Soyode, Chairman of U.K.-based BEN Independent Television, described the failure to qualify as a disaster and one that called for an immediate overhaul, not only in the Nigeria’s Football Association, but in the sports commission.
Soyode, also Chairman of Nigerians in the Diaspora Organisation, Europe (NIDOE) and a sports management Consultant, said: “The entire team did not display the will to win even at home.”
“As a sports-loving person, and one that has participated in football development, I see this as a major blow to our pride and image.
