NGO Wants Policies To Check Malaria Spread

The Junior Chamber International (JCI), a Non-government organisation, has stressed the need for policies to be evolved to check the spread of malaria in the state.

The president of the Trans-Amadi Junior Chamber, Miss Christiana Onuaha made the call during the distribution of nets to Obio Cottage Hospital.

Miss Onuaha described malaria as a deadly scourge that must be checked at all costs.

She emphasised that malaria is Africa’s leading cause of death, hence the JCI Trans-Amadi initiative to role-back malaria in the communities though the distribution of insecticide treated bednets to children and pregnant women in Rivers State.

The representative of the ministry of health, Mr. Barisua Nwiday urged the pregnant women to constantly use the bednets to protect themselves against mosquito bites.

He urged community to put effort to keep their environment clean by Intermediate Preventive Treatment (IPT) and Community Development Initiative (CDI).

He thanked the Rivers State Ministry of Health for their support for the long lasting insecticidal nets as well as their governor for his support.

Vice chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Solomon Abel Eke, who is a member of JCI Trans Amadi said that they were making effort to train people on how to cultivate the habit of cleaniness in their environments, stating that malaria has done more harm than good to the people.

Hon. Eke, stressed on the  problems which they face in various health center built by the state government pointing out that it is unfortunate that even the bed delivery babies are no longer in the health centre and also they even have electrical disconnection which they want to eradicate.
