NFF Fires Falcons Coach, Siasia Knows Fate, Friday

The Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) may have ended the reign of Eucharia Uche as coach of the Women National team, the Super Falcons after series of failures, recently.

The Falcons despite winning the Africa Women Championships, AWC, failed to go beyond the preliminary stage of the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany, failed to make the football events of the All Africa Games in Mozambique and the 2012 London Olympics after surprised losses to Ghana and Cameroon, respectively.

On Monday, NFF’s spokesman, Ademola Olajire hinted that Uche would  not be remaining as Falcons coach.

According to him, her contract is over and there is no extention , which is self explanatory’.

Uche will, however, officially know her fate on Friday when the NFF’s Executive Committee meets to decide on the nation’s teams’ coaching positions.

Also, Coach Samson Siasia will find out his fate after the meeting as the  committee will equally decide whether or not to keep him as Nigeria coach.

“The Executive Committee will meet on Friday,” Ademola Olajire said

Siasia failed to lead Nigeria to the African Nations Cup when his Super Eagles drew 2-2 at home to Guinea early this month, and there have been calls for him to be replaced per the terms of his contract.

But opinion remains divided in the country, with what appears to be a majority of fans keen no seeing him stay on despite the setback.

The NFF’s Technical Committee have made their recommendations to the Executive Committee, who will make a decision this week.

“We made two recommendations. One for what should happen if they want to keep him, and another for what should happen if they want to let him go,” a top member of that committee disclosed this week.

Meanwhile, Tidesports learnt that ex-international Mercy Akide-Udoh has indicated interest in taking over the Super Falcons.
