NCWS Solicits Cooperation Of Women Ministry
The Kebbi chapter of the National Council of Women Society (NCWS), has called on the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to involve the council in its regular activities.
The President of the chapter, Hadiza Nasarawa, made the demand in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday when executive members of the council visited the new Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Gulumbe.
She said the women were at the ministry to intimate the commissioner on the council’s manifesto and the achievements recorded since inception in 1993.
Nasarawa said the council had trained no fewer than 1,000 women on various skills and granted empowerment loans to different women groups.
She added that the council had also prosecuted 12 cases of violence against women, listing them to include domestic
violence, rape and child labour.
“We will continue to defend and protect the rights of women and children,” she said, noting that the council had been assisting widows, orphans, women living with HIV and AIDS as well as those suffering from Vesico Vaginal Fistula (WF).
The council president said the gesture had transformed the lives of the beneficiaries.
