NCC Commences Number Portability Process
The Nigerian
Communications Commission (NCC), says it has commenced preliminary process that will lead to the full process of number portability in the country.
A high ranking officer of the commission, said about three companies have already lined up for the deal.
He said number portability services allow phone users to move from one network to another without losing their contacts.
According to him, a consortium, which has interconnected, Saab Grintek and Telecordia have been mandated to implement the initiative.
He further hinted that the consortium was selected as the prepared vendor for the service after the technical, financial and demonstration presented by the bidding vendors.
The NCC big wing, noted that the leading vendor (consortium), will be also responsible for the set up and implementation of number portability clearing house in the country.
“They will provide mobile number portability solution administration in Nigeria within six months of receiving the licence with a testing period of two months”, he hinted.
Furthermore, he noted that it will also execute a tripartite agreement that will indicate their specific responsibilities in the process with the regulatory approving such agreement in line with the conditions that are available.
