NAWOJ Leads Cancer Awareness Campaign

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists Rivers State Council, rose up from a meeting Wednesday with a resolve to give priority attention to cancer awareness initiatives.

Speaking to members during the meeting, the chairman of the association, Ms Enale Ndubere Kodu, who promised to run an executive with a focused agenda, said the need to shift attension to cancer awareness concern has become imperative given the fact that millions are falling victims of its scourge by the day. “We have talked about HIV/AIDs a lot let us talk more now on cancer, it is killing a lot of women,” she said.

Ms Enale hinted the house of the preparedness of the state Ministry of Health as well as the Okrika Local Government Area, to partner with the female journalists in the state to carry on with a  proposed cancer awareness campaign.

Meanwhile, NAWOJ is collaborating with Preventive Health Initiative (PHI) a non governmental organisation, that is mainly into community healthcare services as well as offer breast and cervical cancer check for women, for a march-against-cancer come 31st October, to be followed by a quiz competition for state government’s schools of  senior secondary category.  According to her, a winner would be presented with a prize.

Basically, this year’s cancer awareness is targeted at the youths so they can prevent it by their lifestyle generally.

It is tagged youths against cancer.
